Hello Again, Reader

Welcome Back, Reader!

You already know so many Letter People now. You can hear their sounds and blend them into words. Look at you go!

Today you will meet the last two vowels, Eliza Elephant (E) and Uma Umbrella (U), and some more good friends too.

When you know these, you will know almost every Letter Person. Let us go meet them. Say each sound out loud with me.

Meet Eliza Elephant

Eliza Elephant the letter E, says e-e

This is Eliza Elephant. Eliza is the letter E.

Eliza says a short sound: "e-e-e", like the start of egg and elephant.

Say hello to Eliza, then try her sound: e-e-e.

Meet Uma Umbrella

Uma Umbrella the letter U, says u-u

This is Uma Umbrella. Uma is the letter U.

Uma says a short sound: "u-u-u", like the start of up and umbrella.

Say hello to Uma, then try her sound: u-u-u.

Meet Rex Rhino

Rex Rhino the letter R, says rrr

This is Rex Rhino. Rex is the letter R.

Rex says a big growly sound: "rrrr", like a rhino running: rrrun!

Say hello to Rex, then try his sound: rrrr.

What Does Eliza Say?

Say Eliza Elephant's sound out loud. What sound does Eliza the letter E make? (It is short, like the start of egg.)

Meet Hugo Hippo

Hugo Hippo the letter H, says h-h

This is Hugo Hippo. Hugo is the letter H.

Hugo says a soft breath sound: "h-h", like a little "huh" when you breathe on cold hands.

Say hello to Hugo, then try his sound: h-h-h.

Meet Bruno Buffalo

Bruno Buffalo the letter B, says b-b

This is Bruno Buffalo. Bruno is the letter B.

Bruno says a bouncy sound: "buh, buh", like the start of ball and bed.

Say hello to Bruno, then try his sound: buh, buh.

Meet Felix Fox

Felix Fox the letter F, says fff

This is Felix Fox. Felix is the letter F.

Felix says a long soft sound: "ffff", like the start of fox and fun.

Say hello to Felix, then try his sound: ffff.

Meet Luna Llama

Luna Llama the letter L, says lll

This is Luna Llama. Luna is the letter L.

Luna says a long sound with her tongue up: "llll", like the start of love and leg.

Say hello to Luna, then try her sound: llll.

Who Says ffff?

One of these friends says a long "ffff" sound, like the start of fox. Which Letter Person is it? You can say the name or the letter.

Push the Sounds Together

Now that you know Eliza Elephant (E), you can read new words. Remember the magic: push Letter People sounds together and they make a word.

Watch: Bruno says "buh". Eliza says "eh". Dexter Dolphin says "d".

Now push them together slowly, then faster: b...e...d. buh-eh-d. bed!

You just read a word! It is where you sleep at night. Let us blend one together.

Push these sounds together and tell me the word: b...e...d. (Say each sound, then squish them together.)

Find a Sound in Your World

Letter People sounds are hiding everywhere! Rex Rhino (R) says a big growly "rrrr", like a rhino running.

Look around your room, or think of your favorite things.

Can you name something that starts with the same growly "rrr" sound as Rex Rhino? (For example: run, red, rock.)
