Hello Again, Reader
Welcome Back, Reader!
You already met six Letter People and learned their sounds: s, a, t, p, i, n. That is a lot of reading power!
Today you will meet six more friends. When you add their sounds, you can read even more words.
Let us meet the first three. Say each sound out loud with me.
Meet Mark Moose
This is Mark Moose. Mark is the letter M.
Mark says a long, humming sound: "mmmm", like a happy hum with your lips closed.
Say hello to Mark, then try his sound: mmmm.
Meet Dexter Dolphin
This is Dexter Dolphin. Dexter is the letter D.
Dexter says a bouncy sound: "d-d-d", like a little drum.
Say hello to Dexter, then try his sound: d-d-d.
Meet Greta Gorilla
This is Greta Gorilla. Greta is the letter G.
Greta says a sound from deep in her throat: "g-g-g", like the start of go and gorilla.
Say hello to Greta, then try her sound: g-g-g.
What Does Mark Say?
Which Letter Person?
You are a Sound Detective again! Listen to a sound and find the Letter Person who makes it.
Remember: Mark Moose (M) says "mmm". Dexter Dolphin (D) says "d-d". Greta Gorilla (G) says "g-g".
Meet Oscar Otter
This is Oscar Otter. Oscar is the letter O.
Oscar says a round, open sound: "o-o-o", like the start of octopus and the middle of dog. Make your mouth a little round O like Oscar.
Say hello to Oscar, then try his sound: o-o-o.
Push the Sounds Together
Here is the magic of reading again. When you push Letter People sounds together, they make a word.
Watch: Dexter says "d". Oscar says "o". Greta says "g".
Now push them together slowly, then faster: d...o...g. duh-o-guh. dog!
You just read a word about your favorite furry friend! Let us try it yourself.
Meet Coda Crocodile
This is Coda Crocodile. Coda is the letter C.
Coda says a hard, snappy sound: "cuh", like a crocodile snapping his jaws. It sounds just like a k.
Say hello to Coda, then try his sound: cuh, cuh, cuh.
Find a Sound in Your World
Coda's "cuh" sound starts lots of words: cat, cup, car.
Look around your room, or think of your favorite things. Can you find a word that starts with Coda's "cuh" sound?
Meet Kira Kangaroo
This is Kira Kangaroo. Kira is the letter K.
Kira says "k-k-k", the same snappy sound as Coda's "cuh". Two Letter People, one sound: that is their little secret.
Say hello to Kira, then try her sound: k-k-k.
That is all six new friends! Now you can read a whole story.
