Welcome

Four feelings faces: happy, sad, and mad

Hi there! Welcome to a lesson about feelings.

Did you know that everyone has feelings? You do. Your family does. Your friends do. Even grown-ups do!

Feelings are what is happening inside you. Sometimes you feel good. Sometimes you feel not so good. And no worries!

Today we will learn about different feelings & how to be a good friend.

How Are You Feeling?

Let's Start!

Before we begin, let's check in with YOU.

How are you feeling right now? Happy? Sad? Silly? Sleepy? Anything is okay!

Feeling Happy

Happy 😊

Happy is when you feel good inside. Maybe you smile or laugh or want to jump around!

Lots of things can make you happy. Playing with a toy. Getting a hug. Eating your favorite food. Seeing a friend.

Happy is a wonderful feeling!

What Makes You Happy?

Let's think about happy things!

What is something that makes you happy?

Feeling Sad

Sad 😒

Sad is when you feel like crying. Maybe your tummy hurts a little. Maybe you feel quiet inside.

Everyone feels sad sometimes. Grown-ups feel sad too!

It is okay to feel sad. Sad feelings do not last forever. They come & then they go.

What is something that makes you feel sad? Remember, it is okay to feel sad sometimes.

Feeling Mad

When you feel mad, you can take deep breaths, squeeze a pillow, or stomp your feet

Mad 😠

Mad is when you feel angry inside. Maybe your face gets hot. Maybe you want to yell or stomp your feet.

It is okay to feel mad! Everyone feels mad sometimes.

But even when we feel mad, we try not to hurt anyone. We can stomp our feet. We can take big deep breaths. We can squeeze a pillow.

What do you do when you feel mad? Or what could you do?

Feeling Scared

Scared 😨

Scared is when something feels too big or too dark or too loud. Maybe your heart beats fast. Maybe you want to hide.

It is okay to feel scared! Everyone feels scared sometimes: even grown-ups.

When you feel scared, you can hold someone's hand. You can hug a stuffed animal. You can tell a grown-up.

Is there something that makes you feel scared? Or have you ever felt scared? It is okay to talk about it.

Showing Kindness

Being a good friend β€” a kind friend helps a sad friend feel better

Being a Good Friend

Now you know about happy, sad, mad, & scared. Guess what? Your friends have all these feelings too!

When a friend is sad, you can help! You can:

- Give them a hug (if they want one)

- Sit with them

- Say something nice

- Share a toy

Being kind helps everyone feel better: you AND your friend!

If your friend is crying & feels sad, what could you do to help them feel better?

Using Your Words

Did you know you can use words to tell people how you feel? That is really helpful!

You can say:

- "I feel happy!"

- "I feel sad."

- "I feel mad."

- "I feel scared."

When you use your words, people can understand you better. They can help you if you need help!

Let's practice! Try saying "I feel..." & then add a feeling word.

Can you finish this sentence? "I feel...": you can pick any feeling you want!
